Can't See The Floor? 3 Ways To Declutter The Closet
Posted on: 17 March 2016
You've tackled every part of your home. You're done. The clutter is finally gone. But wait! You've forgotten one important spot. It's a spot you look at every day. It's your closet. Yes, you need to get the clutter out of your closet, especially if most of your clothing is on the floor. Don't panic. You can get rid of the clutter in just a few simple steps.
Remove the Clothes
Before you can actually get rid of the clutter from your closet, you need to start with an empty space. Remove all the clothing and shoes from your closet and place them on your bed. This will allow you to sort through your clothing for things you no longer wear. Once you have everything on your bed, you'll be ready to move on to the next step.
Divide them into Three Piles
Now that you have everything on your bed, you're ready to divide and conquer the mess. Begin by creating three separate piles. These piles will be for things you plan to keep, things you plan to donate and things you plan to toss.
Items that are in good condition – but you don't remember wearing – should be placed in the donation pile. Clothes that are worn-out and damaged should be thrown away – no matter how much you love them.
Once you have your clothing sorted, place donation and discard piles in separate containers and take them from the room. This will prevent you from placing them back in the closet. Now you're ready to clean your closet.
Clean the Closet
Before you hang your clothing up again, you're going to give your closet a thorough cleaning. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the carpeting. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then vacuum your carpeting as usual.
This will kill any odors that might be hiding in your carpet fibers. Finally, fill a bucket with warm water and add ¼ cup of bleach and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Using a clean cloth, wash your closet walls and shelves with the cleaning solution. Allow them to air dry. Once you've cleaned your closet, you'll be ready to hang your clothes up.
If your closet is so cluttered that you can no longer see the floor, it may be time to do some de-cluttering. Use these simple steps to clean out your closet and get rid of the clutter. For more information on custom closets, click here.
